At Rosyth, we help every child grow in character, build positive relationships and take responsibility for their choices. Guided by our I-CARE values, we work with students, staff and parents to build a caring school community where every Rosythian feels safe, respected and supported to learn and grow.

Our Approach
1. Adopting a Positive & Proactive Approach to Discipline
Discipline at Rosyth helps students learn to manage themselves, take responsibility for their choices and treat others with respect. Anchored in our I-CARE values, our approach combines clear expectations and appropriate consequences with guidance and support. When students make mistakes, we help them understand the impact of their actions, put things right and make better choices. Restoring relationships and following through on changes in behaviour are important parts of this learning.
2. Nurturing Student Well-being
We care for every Rosythian’s emotional, social and mental well-being. Through counselling support, peer mentoring and early intervention, we help students manage challenges, build positive relationships and seek help when needed. We take a firm stance against bullying and hurtful behaviour. We support students who have been hurt and help those who have caused hurt take responsibility and change their behaviour. We also guide students to look out for one another and seek help from trusted adults.
3. Empowering Student Leadership and Personal Growth
Leadership begins with how students manage themselves, relate to others and contribute to their community. We help every Rosythian recognise their strengths, set meaningful goals and take responsibility for their own growth. Through everyday opportunities to serve and different leadership roles, students learn to lead by example, work with others and use their strengths to make a difference.
4. Strengthening Holistic Growth through Strong Parent Partnership
Parents are important partners in each child’s development. Through regular communication, shared observations and consultation when needed, we work together to understand each child’s strengths and needs. We share resources to support positive behaviour at home and work with parents to reinforce consistent expectations, encourage responsible choices and support their child’s well-being.
Key Programmes
1. Rosyth’s Leadership Development Programme
Our six-year Leadership Development Programme develops students progressively from Primary 1 to Primary 6. For Primary 1 to Primary 3, the programme is guided by C.A.R.E. leadership: Caring, Alert, Responsible and Exemplary. For Primary 4 to Primary 6, it draws on The Leadership Challenge model by Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner to further develop students’ leadership skills.
Every Rosythian is nurtured with values and skills of a student mentor to be:
· A C.A.R.ing Buddy who Cares, shows grAtitude, and Respects others.
· A good role model who models the way and leads by example.
· A supportive mentor who can use the CHEER model to help others.
The Catch-Them-Right Movement
Our Catch Them Right movement encourages students to notice and affirm the good in one another. Students recognise peers who display our I-CARE values through everyday words and actions. This helps them understand what these values look like in practice and appreciate how small acts of kindness, integrity and respect make a difference. By recognising one another’s positive choices, Rosythians help build a school culture of encouragement, gratitude and care.

3. POPKIDZ: Empowering Student Voices, Cultivating Safe Spaces
At our school, we believe that leadership begins with a heart to serve. The Pupil-On-Patrol (POP) programme—affectionately known as POPKidz—is a student-led initiative that empowers our young learners to take active ownership of their school community. Driven entirely by intrinsic motivation, these dedicated students have stepped forward as volunteers to help ensure our school remains a safe, welcoming and happy environment for everyone.
4. Preventing and Addressing Bullying
Every student should feel safe, respected and included at school. Our approach to preventing and addressing bullying combines education, early support, timely action and continued follow-up. We teach students to recognise hurtful behaviour, manage disagreements respectfully and respond safely when they or others need help. We encourage them to speak to a trusted adult and look out for one another.
When concerns are raised, we take them seriously, put appropriate safety measures in place and look into what happened. We address hurtful behaviour through guidance, appropriate consequences and opportunities to repair harm. We continue to support the students involved and monitor their well-being and behaviour.
Students and parents are encouraged to raise concerns promptly with a teacher or school leader.
